Playing the piano forward
A Queen's grad is key to a great musical competition
A while back The Missus and I had the privilege to be invited to a private piano recital at the French Embassy in Ottawa. Performing for an audience of perhaps 50 people was Élisabeth Pion, who was the Gold Laureate and Audience Choice Award winner of the 2025 Honens International Piano Competition. Suffice to say, Pion is very good at playing the piano.
The event was organized by Calgary-based Honens and a small group of dedicated volunteers and patrons in Ottawa. A key part of the team at its Calgary main office is its president and CEO, Amanda Smith. We met Amanda at the recital and I later wrote a short piece about her for Queen’s Alumni Review.
