Brownell's paintings of Ottawa's ByWard Market are treasures
It’s such fun, and such a privilege, to write about art for the magazine of the National Gallery of Canada. Most recently I wrote a short piece looking at two small paintings of Ottawa’s historic ByWard Market as it was early in the 20th century. The paintings were by American-born Franklin Brownell, who adopted Ottawa, and Canada, as his home.
